Collaboration is the key to success.

On the opening day of school on Sept. 4, UFT President Randi Weingarten stressed the need for principal-teacher partnerships as the Department of Education hands over more responsibility to individual schools.

“Regardless of your view on the latest reorganization, teachers and principals have to work together to help kids learn,” she said.

Building on that idea, we decided to “use the data” and see which schools in District 11 were collaborating with their teachers and rank them accordingly.

The rankings are based on three questions in the Learning Environment Survey that we believe measure the elements needed for collaboration to occur in the school. The questions are 5c, 5h, and 10b of the teachers section deal with open and honest communication, trust and playing a meaningful role in making important decisions.

Deserving a special mention is the principal of P.S. 111, Julia River-Jones, who is trusted by 100% of her teachers according to the survey.

The answers in the survey were weighted: “Strongly Agree” with a 1.0 factor and “Agree” with a 0.5 factor. The total scores are out of 300 and are ranked in order of best to last. The new schools to the District were not part of the survey and JHS 135’s survey was not available. You can see your school's full survey results by clicking on your school below.
