UFT Lobby Day 2008
Action Alert......Protect Teacher Tenure Rights
Ask your legislator to protect teacher tenure rights.
A debate over tenure is heating up in the state Legislature. We are strongly urging legislators to support the state Legislature's proposed tenure clarification amendments. We must protect teachers’ rights to a fair tenure process.Click here to do your part.
2008 COPE Campaign
Each year, we lobby state and city legislators for the resources to ensure a quality education for all our students and an adequately funded education budget. We look to strengthen collective bargaining rights by pushing for reform of the Taylor Law, which governs collective bargaining by public employees in the state. Sometimes we forge alliances with community groups to mount public pressure, such as in our current campaign to mandate smaller class sizes. And we work to support elected officials who stand with us on education, labor and human rights matters. Click here for more specifics about COPE campaign. Click here for more information.

Tell your Congress Member to fix NCLB now

With the federal No Child Left Behind law up for reauthorization this fall, the debate is in full swing in the U.S. Congress about how best to amend the law. While some of the proposed reforms are helpful, others — such as mandating the use of student test scores to evaluate teachers or to award performance pay — are misguided and should be rejected.
Fix NCLB now. You can make your voice heard by clicking here to send a fax to your Congress Member.
